How to plan a good trip

When planning a trip, we all know that there are many details that we must pay attention to. After all, in addition to choosing the destination and date, there are other items that we must pay attention to that contribute to a good trip.
Planning a trip may seem like an easy task for many people who are used to embarking on this world, but unless you are used to complex itineraries or are part of the team of disorganized travelers who do everything until the last minute, if you do this step it will certainly help you.
Understanding that planning is saving helps many people understand the need to simplify travel and focus on the priorities of what to plan versus what not to plan.
There is no need to plan everything, just general guidelines so that you can get to know a place and still have time to rest and have fun alone or with someone else.
It is very important that you are clear about the style of travel you want. Is it a trip to a single location or do you want to visit several cities in a region? Is it an individual trip or a group trip?
Is it a short or long trip on a budget? If you haven't answered all of these questions yet, let's figure it out together so you can enjoy every day of your trip. Check out some tips for planning a great trip:
- Start before you choose a destination.
To plan a great trip from scratch, you can start planning before you even decide where you want to travel. You don’t need to have already purchased tickets to create an itinerary. Discover travel destinations, visit other cities and countries, experience another culture, and spend some time looking for trips to relax.
Even if you don’t know exactly where you’ll end up, be as prepared as possible for when that happens! And the more you know about potential destinations (even if it’s only online), the better! An itinerary starts long before you buy your plane ticket. Take advantage of the fact that you’re not “committing” to a specific route and travel the world while you do your research online.
- Set a destination
After researching your options, it's time to decide on a destination. Make a list of your top choices. Another tip is to ask your friends for recommendations and research the details to see if you really like the places they recommend. It could be a popular tourist destination or one that suits your style, whether it's on the beach, in the countryside, or in a big city.
Of course, there are other points to consider: some of them are related to the climate of the region you intend to travel to, which attractions to visit and what the high season is in that destination. you will have at your disposal – some points around the world will take longer than others to be explored properly and in the way they deserve.
- Set how long the trip will last
Another crucial factor when planning a trip is the time you have at your destination. Some places are great for short trips, such as weekends or holidays. And in others, for example, you should choose to go when you have more time, as the itinerary itself requires a longer travel time to explore everything.
The time it takes to reach your destination also counts, especially when you travel internationally or to places far away from your city, even within Brazil. After all, living in a continental country sometimes leaves us further away from our desired destination.
- Prepare a budget
When it comes to traveling well (and we're not talking about traveling to expensive destinations here), the budget aspect needs to be well sorted. The tip here is to write everything down on paper: the price of tickets, transportation, accommodation, food, activities and tours, emergency money and even the money that will be spent on souvenirs that you will definitely bring back for your family and friends.
No one has an unlimited budget and we often have to postpone our dreams due to the high cost of travel. Once you have an idea of how much you can afford, you can cross some destinations off your priority list.
When writing down the costs of tours, flights, food and accommodation, it is essential to have an idea of what is possible within your budget. There is no point in having R$2,000 to spare and wanting to go on a luxury safari in South Africa.
- Make a list of important things to take on your trip
It’s almost time to pack your bags, say goodbye and start your journey, but first, one last thing. It’s extremely important to make a list of what you need to pack for your trip, as we believe that different destinations require different travel essentials.
For example, if you decide to travel to a snowy place you need to be prepared for very low temperatures, if you are going to travel to a place where it rains a lot it might be a good idea to invest in a waterproof coat if you are going to the beach, you need to bring sunscreen etc., count what you already have at home and what you need to buy – either before leaving or during the trip.
- Keep your documents and insurance up to date
For anyone planning to travel, one of the most important things, especially if the destination is international, is to have all the necessary documents to enter the country. Again, prior planning is essential, as bureaucratic processes have several steps and, therefore, can take longer to approve and hold in your hands. Don't wait until the last minute to worry about passports, visas and authorizations!
In many cases, obtaining travel insurance is a necessity that may arise during the advance planning process for trips within Brazil. In any case, the need for insurance depends on your travel destination. For example, if you plan to travel to European countries covered by the Schengen Agreement, you must present this document to the immigration authorities.
