Gastronomic itineraries in São Paulo

There is no doubt that you can get to know a place and a culture through its gastronomy. For many, traveling is more about eating than anything else, because it is a fundamental part of determining the success of any trip. But for others, a gastronomic trip is already an objective that is set in stone, and for them, we have prepared some restaurants that cannot be missed during your trip.

Danda's Burger

Simply the best burger I've ever had. Those who are used to fast food chains will understand when I say: their meat is salty! And not only that, the whole mix of seasonings results in a succulent meat, which combined with the other ingredients of the snack, makes your mouth water just thinking about it.

The menu options are themed, featuring actors and singers from the 50s, 60s and 70s. And there is a variety to please all palates, including vegetarians. My favorite? Ava Gardner, a delicious combination of brioche bread made on site, 200g beef burger, infused cheeses (especially gorgonzola), cucumber relish (also made on site), lettuce, tomato, spring onion, and crispy bacon; simply impeccable.

The place is located in Jundiaí, a city in the interior of São Paulo, and is definitely worth the trip. Unfortunately, the place is not open every day, opening from Wednesday to Sunday, from 7 pm to 11 pm, and on Mondays from 6 am to 11 am (although it is closed on most Mondays).

Medieval Tavern

Due to its theme, the place is very popular and manages to attract a lot of customers with its well-made delicacies and a large selection of drinks. The place is located in Vila Clementino and offers an ambiance that is completely reminiscent of medieval times, with Victorian-style tables, shields and everything else, to contribute to the atmosphere that the place wants to convey. In addition, as you would expect, board games are a big part of the attraction.

But since we're talking about gastronomy, let's just talk for a moment about the Ragnarok burger, which is simply wonderful. On the menu you'll find a variety of combinations that can please even the most sophisticated palates. Without a doubt, this trip is a must-try.

SUN

It is impossible to talk about gastronomy in São Paulo without mentioning the great chefs of haute cuisine. And this includes chef Alex Atala, who is the reason why the restaurant is so famous. In addition to the chef being very well-known in the area, the restaurant is located in one of the most exclusive areas of São Paulo, in the Jardins neighborhood, which means luxury.

Now, regarding the restaurant's menu, its dishes are extremely eccentric and expensive. That's why it's recommended to start with a tasting, which allows you to get to know a little of the recipes that were the subject of research on Brazilian ingredients used in their most authentic translation. The dishes at DOM portray our cuisine in its greatest beauty and diversity, featuring dishes and combinations prepared by Alex himself, in order to bring to the palate the real Brazilian taste, speaking the language of all the people who live here.

Salt Gastronomy

This restaurant should definitely be on your list from the beginning, but we can't help but mention it. Who has never wanted to try the cuisine of our beloved Chef Henrique Fogaça, known throughout Brazil for his two appearances on Master Chef, in addition to his incomparable flavor?

The service here is spectacular, and the food is simply out of this world. For some, it may be a little different to the palate, but after pairing it with a good glass of wine, all the combinations seem to go perfectly together in your mouth, especially when it comes to the famous lamb dish served here; it is masterful.

On top of everything else, the experience is enriching. Being able to see the chefs working on your dish up close, with all the care and precision of the ingredients, is something that will delight anyone who is passionate about gastronomy. Without a doubt, the flavors are different and can take anyone out of the box.

Acropolis

This one is a little different from the other options because we will be discussing a different cuisine: Greek. Opened in 1959, the restaurant located in Bom Retiro draws attention with its simple and cozy atmosphere, which does not leave anyone intimidated. With its typical bar chairs and tables, I bet many people pre-judge the restaurant, but trust me, it is worth leaving that aside.

The place serves a variety of dishes, from seafood to veal, lamb, and pies. What stands out about the cuisine is the flavor, which is extremely different from Brazilian cuisine (of course, we have some adaptations to suit our Brazilian taste). It is common to find a food display (Subway or Spoletto style) where you select the ingredients and the chef prepares your dish. The result is impressive.

Arouche Tavern

Portuguese cuisine stands out here. The flavors are very subtle and go well with the more refined Brazilian palate, with starters that come with fresh cheese, bread, olives, chickpea paste, and an extremely generous couvert that is already a good choice. The place is located in Largo do Arouche, in the historic center of São Paulo.

On the restaurant's menu you will find meats, savory dishes and fruits of the forest. The most popular options are for a second starter with savory dishes such as shrimp and cod rissoles, then move on to larger dishes such as the shrimp a la provençal with green rice.

Regardless of where you are and what culture you are going to eat, allow yourself to experiment. No matter how different people’s tastes are, this is how many people communicate: through food. It is a way to get to know other places, customs and people. Even if it is not your taste, get excited to learn more and discover which typical foods from a certain place you like, and take a cultural trip without leaving Brazil. This is what a gastronomic travel itinerary is all about.
